Absolutely stunning, probably now my favourite European City. Many of the restaurants are extremely overpriced but if you go up the alleyways you'll find more affordable food that tastes the exact same as pretty much every restaurant menu in Dubrovnik is identical! Must also say it has to be one of the cleanest places I have ever been even if you see a bit of rubbish within minutes it has been cleaned up. I would recommend wearing some type of shoe though as the paths are very slippy if your wearing flip flops.
Dubrovnik day trips are made for those interested in old towns and rich history of Croatian south. Our two destinations¸ Ston and especially Dubrovnik will leave you speechless.
Ston is a small city located on Peljesac peninsula¸ 40 km from Dubrovnik while our second destination and famous Game of Thrones filming spot doesn’t need special introduction.
Although it takes 3 – 4 hour drive¸ Dubrovnik day trips and phenomenal sights of this marvelous city are well worth it. Since it takes approximately same time to reach National Park Plitvice¸ you can choose which one you prefer. Breathtaking natural beauty of Plitvice Lakes or stunning architecture and history of Dubrovnik?
Ston played an important part in The Republic of Ragusa. It served as shield¸ a fort of Dubrovnik on the north. Defensive walls of Ston were vital defence perimitor on the northern border of the old Republic as well as notable feat of medieval architecture.
Today¸ the Great Wall which is the longest stone wall in Europe (5¸5 km) as well as town of Ston along with it’s inner wall are popular tourist destinations.
Ston is also known as the town of salt¸ thanks to the oldest active salt works in the world. On the other hand¸ cultivation of oysters and mussels is present since the Romans¸ while oysters from Ston are known as natural aphrodisiac.
If Ston was appetizer¸ Dubrovnik is the main course and a dessert of our Dubrovnik day trips. It is probably the most beautiful Croatian city¸ bar none. Amazing architecture and rich history of this medieval town which seems like its frozen in time¸ will leave you in awe.
Also known as ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’¸ Dubrovnik is fascinating walled city with Adriatic sea in front and mountain Srđ in the back which offers an amazing view of the city and its surroundings.
Town was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667 and again in the 1990s by armed conflict but it managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.
Despite all of its historical structures¸ charming alleyways and Stradun which is its main streets¸ the one you shouldn’t miss is walking tour along the medieval walls of Dubrovnik that go all the way around.
If you’re fan of the show Game of Thrones¸ you will recognize many locations from the series since Dubrovnik was one of the main filming spots for HBO¸ especially during seasons 3¸ 4 and 5.
So¸ not only that you can enjoy in stunning architecture of this old city which is one of the UNESCO heritage sites but also explore the real life set of King’s Landing from this epic series.
