Having returned to Split after a wonderful short break last year, one of the reasons for returning was so that we had time to take a full day out and go on this marvelous trip. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The area is a stunning feast for the eyes, ears and senses. The waterfalls are magnificent and the park itself is beautiful. I cannot recommend this day highly enough! If you only do one thing in Split¸ make sure it's this!!
National Park Krka is similar to N.P. Plitvice and one of the most attractive destinations in Croatia. Although Plitivice Lakes are bigger¸ close visicinity of Split makes N.P. Krka extremly popular location. It is wonder of nature you simply have to visit.
You lose a lot less time on the road and we also stop in Šibenik¸ charming mediterranean town with rich history and numerous summer festivities. Not to mention¸ Krka Waterfalls & Šibenik tour is cheaper and our number one selling excursion¸ next to Five Islands Tour.
National Park Krka is rich and preserved ecosystem with its seven waterfalls¸ exceptional natural value¸ chrystal clear water and stunning scenary which will leave you breathless. It is intertwined with signs¸ wooden bridges and walkways which will help you explore every part of this mesmerizing place.
Park is located within the territory of Šibenik-Knin County and encompasses an area of 109 square kilometers along the Krka River. The river¸ with its travertine waterfalls¸ cascades and total drop in altitude of 242 m, is a natural and karst phenomenon.
Although National Park Krka is characterized by exceptionally rich flora and fauna¸ highlights of the tour include Skradinski Buk¸ Roški Slap and island of Visovac. On the other hand¸ watermills¸ ethno museum¸ small stone houses and the first hydroelectric power station in Europe add more value to already rich and diverse attractions of the park.
Island of Visovac which can be reached by park boats¸ was founded during the reign of Louis I of Hungary. It hides Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of Mercy, the Church of Our Lady of Visovac and museum with a number of important archaeological collections.
On top of all that¸ Krka is the only National Park in Croatia where swimming is allowed. So don’t forget to bring your swimming suit¸ in case you’re visiting during summer months. After you finish the tour¸ you can sit in one of the restaurants which offer an amazing view of the Krka waterfalls¸ while you enjoy in local cuisine.
Šibenik is historical city with rich spiritual and material culture located on the Adriatic coast¸ close to National Park Krka. Actually¸ Šibenik is built on the point where Krka river and Adriatic sea connect.
Long time ago¸ it was even capital of Croatian Kingdom. Thanks to its strategic location¸ rich and turbulent history¸ there are four fortresses in and around Šibenik. Nowdays¸ they serve as turist sightseeing locations each of whom provides spectacular view on the city, sea as well as surrounding islands.
That being said¸ highlight of Šibenik tour is St.James Cathedral which represents a mix of Gothic and Renesance style. Cathedral is built completly from stone and it is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. If you want to go inside the church¸ bring long pants and be ready to pay entrance fee. However¸ that’s just a “cherry on the cake” to already rich and fun excursion.
